Mr.  Thomas James Swert Obituary
Thomas James Swert, 58, of Hobart, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois. He was born March 30, 1958 in Toledo to Lloyd "Corky" and Nancy (Geiermann) Swert. Tom married Shelly Hudman on October 11, 1985 and she preceded him in death in 2015.

Tom attended West Geauga Schools in Chesterland, Ohio and Toledo University. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1975-1976. Tom was employed as a surveyor for Walsh Construction. He formerly worked as a brakeman and conductor for Penn Central Railroad for 15 years. Tom enjoyed being outdoors, canoeing, camping and fishing with his family. He was also a gun enthusiast and motorcycle rider. Tom dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren and his dog, Daisy.

In addition to his parents, Corky (Nancy) Swert of Hillsdale, Tom is survived by two daughters, Michelle (Jason) Clark of Hobart, Indiana and Crystal Belfi of Garland, Texas; three sons, Thomas Swert Jr. of Toledo, Steven (Nicole) Swert of Toledo and Anthony (Tiffany) Swert of Hobart; eleven grandchildren and two sisters, Lori (Richard) Amato of Mentor, Ohio and Joy (Alex) Mismas of Santa Monica, California.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Shelly and brother, Jeff.

Funeral services for Thomas Swert will be at 2 p.m. Friday at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Rick Braman officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday from 12 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
