Verl Dean Sprague Obituary

HUDSON - On January 14, 2016, Verl Dean Sprague left this earth for his heavenly home, surrounded by family and under the loving care of the staff at Drews on Bacon in Hillsdale Mi and Southern Care Hospice Services.

Verl was born in Morenci MI, the fifth of seven children to Bernard and Dorothy (Fortney) Sprague. On January 4, 1949, Verl and Marjory Milliman of Fayette OH were married; a love story that continued for 66 years.

Verl is survived by two daughters, Bonny (Ian) Parsons and Rebecca (Gary) Cole, six devoted grandchildren, Julie (Troy) Legge, Jennifer Mullinax, Rachel (Mark) Hacker, Kelly (Todd) Ritchie, Michael (Anita) Cole, Tiffany (Steven) Hosler and 11 great-grandchildren.

After Marjory suffered a stroke in 1996, Verl faithfully cared for her in their home in Hudson MI for 11 years. When Marjory moved to Drews Place in 2007, Verl visited her every day, even in inclement weather. In 2011, recognizing he had memory issues, Verl moved to Drews to be with his wife. Verl was a man of quiet but great faith, always ready to lend a helping hand wherever needed.

He was a member of the Hudson Wesleyan Church since 1951. Verl enjoyed many outdoor activities including gardening, hunting, fishing and playing sports. He continued to play softball on a church team into his mid 60s.

Verl was preceded in death by his parents, a step-mother Gertrude Sprague, three brothers, Glen, Robert and Harold and a half-brother Jerry Sprague. Two brothers, Don and Roger and a sister Bernita Clark survive as well as a very special family friend Carol Champion.

Funeral services for Verl will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2016, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor Wesley Rowan officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2016, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hudson Wesleyan Church or Southern Care Hospice.

Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Condolences can be sent to the family at: www.brownvanhemert.com.
