Wesley D. Sutton Obituary
Wesley D. Sutton, 92, of Litchfield, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at the VA Hospital in Battle Creek. He was born September 29, 1924 in Hillsdale to Henry and Greta (Bartell) Sutton. Wesley married Cassie (Kay) Hurley on September 21, 1943 and she preceded him in death in 2010.
He attended Litchfield High School and then went on to serve his country in the United States Army. Wesley was in the Battle of the Bulge where he received two purple hearts. Wesley was a life member of the American Legion Post #279 of Litchfield, DAV Post of Hillsdale and the VFW Post 7301 of Hillsdale. He was also a member of the Litchfield United Methodist Church, 40/8 Club of Hillsdale, past president of the Litchfield Rotary Club, past Master Masonic Lodge (Franklin) Lodge #40 of Litchfield and had been involved in many community and civic affairs and also owned Sutton's Marathon for many years. Wesley also drove for Essex Wire and was a Volunteer Fireman for many years.
Survivors include sons, David (Darlene) Sutton of Winter Haven, Florida, Daniel (Sue) Sutton of Sebring, Florida and Wesley D. (Beverly) Sutton, Jr. of Ft. Payne, Alabama; daughter-in-law, Linda Sutton Osborn of Battle Creek; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife Kay, Wesley was preceded in death by his parents; son, James and sister, June Nevins.
Funeral Services for Wesley will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the Eagle Funeral Home- George White Chapel in Litchfield with Reverend Clyde Wonders officiating. Interment will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Litchfield. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, at 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
In Lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggestion to the Hillsdale County Vets Emergency Relief Fund or Litchfield United Methodist Church.
