William A. Smaelts Jr. Obituary
William A. Smelts, Jr., age 84 years of Osseo, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility in Hillsdale. He was born on February 29, 1932, in Redford, the son of William A. and Anna D. (Hull) Smelts, Sr. Bill graduated from Clarenceville High School in 1950. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bill married Marilyn Wirick on August 13, 1955, in Hudson. She survives. He was a factory worker foreman and farmer. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a member of Sun Seekers Chapter-Good Sams and Ransom Congregational Church.

Surviving besides his wife, Marilyn, are their three children; Alice Stuckey of Pioneer, OH, Sue Ellen (Philip) Brown of Kettering, OH, and Mary (Norman) McLouth of Ransom, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Ann Marie Smelts, son-in-law, Craig Stuckey, grandson, Matthew Beard, great grandson, Baby James, brother, Orval LeRoy Smelts, three sisters, Flossie Mae Trapp, Lucille Lang and Beulah Dawdy.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor Dennis Lee officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service. Private interment will take place at a later date in Lickley's Corners Cemetery in Wright Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan.

Memorials are suggested to Ransom Congregational Church of Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.
