William George "Bill" James Sr. Obituary
William George "Bill" James Sr., age 90, of Hillsdale, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017. He was born April 13, 1927 in Jackson to William and Marion (Hague) James. Bill married Harriet Smith on August 30, 1952 and she survives.
Bill graduated from Jackson High School and attended the University of Michigan. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Bill was employed for Hayes Industries and later, Aluminum Extrusions, Inc. In 1974, he founded Whitehall Industries, Inc. where he served as president and CEO until his retirement in 1984. Bill came out retirement in 1989 to found Deca Manufacturing in Clearwater, Florida with his son, Robert and they worked together until Bill retired in 2005. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and board member for Prayer Book Society of the United States from 1993-1997. Bill also served as board trustee and president of The Bishop Whitemore Foundation from 1962-1984. Bill was an avid UofM sports fan and he dearly loved his family and friends.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, Harriet James, Bill is survived by three children, Joanna (Scott) Wiseley of Hillsdale, William (Holly) James Jr. of Sylvania, Ohio and Robert James of Clearwater, Florida; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Reid of Jackson and brother, Thomas (Carolyn) James of Spring Lake.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Cameron Austin James; sister, Margaret and brother, Terrance.
Funeral services with Holy Eucharist for William "Bill" James Sr. will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Holy Trinity Parish in Hillsdale with Fr. Adam Rick and Bishop Peter Beckwith officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale.
Arrangements are entrusted to VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
