William Richard Lee Obituary
William Richard Lee, 85, of Hillsdale, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. He was born August 2, 1931 in Waukegan, IL to William G. and Beatrice Anita (Rodee) Lee.
Bill graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1949 and attended Virginia Military Institute, graduating in 1954 from Wayne State University. He worked for General Motors Research Lab in Warren, and after retiring from there May 30, 1988, he worked at ACT Lab, Hillsdale.
He married Janet A. Leisenring (Hudson) on July 4, 1953 in Hudson and she survives. Also surviving are five children, Janet Susan (George) McManus of Augusta, GA, William D. (Linda) Lee of Auburn Hills, Patricia A. (Kevin) Trader of Warner, New Hampshire, Douglas A. (Holli Jo) Lee of Elizabethtown, KY and Richard A. (Vickie) Lee of Pittsford; 11 grandchildren, Bill (Meghann) Jaquette of Dallas, TX, Nicole (Matt) Claudio of Toledo, Andrew W. Jaquette of Dallas, Catie (Nick) Lowe of Auburn Hills, Melissa Lee of Auburn Hills, Amanda (Adam) Barker of Bradford, NH, Erin (Josh) Naimo of Elizabethtown, KY, Jason Lee of Elizabethtown, KY, Amy (Clayton) Humphrey of Elizabethtown, KY, Taylor and Jaidyn Lee, both of Pittsford; eight great-grandchildren, Lilian Claudio of Toledo, Haylee Humphrey of Elizabethtown, KY, Kaylee Jaquette of Dallas, Emma Jo and Emmet Lee both of Elizabethtown, KY, Austin and Aleah Barker, both of Bradford, NH, and Quincy Lowe, of Auburn Hills.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, William Ralph Lee.
He was a member and past president of Hillsdale Rotary and two-time Paul Harris awardee, an honorary member of Hillsdale Kiwanis, member of Hillsdale Town and Country Chorus, Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout 1945, Scoutmaster of Troop #1093 in Clawson, served on the Hillsdale United Way Board and the Hillsdale County Senior Center Board. He was a member of the Midwest Fruit Jar Association. He participated in the Hillsdale First UMC choral choir and hand bell choir for many years. He played chimes in the Addison Senior Center, the Perennial Park Senior Center and the Jonesville United Methodist Church hand chimes choirs. He was named Distinguished Citizen of the Year in 2012 by the Boy Scouts of America.
A memorial service for Bill Lee will be held at 11 .m. Monday, March 27, at the Hillsdale First United Methodist Church with Pastors Pat Brook and Jennifer Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Sand Lake Valley Cemetery in Hillsdale Twp. The family will receive friends for visitation from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
