Helen Barnes Boyer passed quietly into heaven April 13, 2013, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, having thoroughly worn out her mortal body with 94 years of enthusiastic, loving service to God, family and community. She was born Sept. 21, 1918, in West Weber County, Utah, the oldest of 12 children to Angus William Barnes and Hortense Dorothy Peterson. The family moved to Arco, Idaho, in 1819 on a farm in an area known as the "Era Flat." Helen graduated as valedictorian from Arco High School in 1936 and attended Weber State for one year.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was sealed to her childhood friend and sweetheart, Fred Houtz Boyer, on Aug. 12, 1941, in the Logan LDS Temple. They continued to reside in Arco where they raised six children and owned several businesses - Boyer's Super Market, Lost River Title Insurance Company and Boyer's Real Estate and Insurance.
Helen's faith in Jesus Christ and her devotion to family was the foundation of her active life. She and her husband, Fred, were exceptional parents. Their home was filled with love, music, laughter and good gospel discussions. Helen was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and magnified all her callings from den mother to Relief Society president. Her main calling was to the youth of the church. Over many years she involved hundreds of youth in road shows, quartet festivals, spring sings, dance festivals, plays, music festivals and choruses. She served as an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for 15 years.
As chairman of the Cultural Arts Committee of Arco, she directed many musical shows and patriotic programs. Her special talent was her ability to involve people from all walks of life. One of her shows, "Uncle Sam's Songs" was performed in the Civic Auditorium in Idaho Falls. She organized an interfaith Christmas Community Choir and was a member of the Arco Hospital Auxiliary.
Her posterity of 155, including 41 grandchildren and 84 great-grandchildren, will remember her for her quilts, special Christmas gifts, wonderful family reunions and her birthday cards.
Helen is survived by her six children, Joyce (William) Bradford of Smithfield, Utah, Wayne (Sue) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Lyle B. (Alison) Boyer of Arco, Idaho, Cheryl (Rick) Hansen of Rexburg, Idaho, Lynette (Todd) Williams of Firth, Idaho, and Ryan W. (Allison) Boyer of Firth, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son-in-law and three grandsons.
