Lucille Pease Obituary

March 5, 1923 - October 22, 2010
Husband Arthur Cruse Pease, 65 years
Six children - 32 grandchildren 72 great-grandchildren
Mom was surrounded by her family as she took her last breath Friday, Oct. 22. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest treasures. We rejoiced as she left her sick and frail body for a better place. We cried from our loss, forgave grievances, comforted one another and gave thanks for the power she held in her soft and loving mother hands. A family gathering to ""Celebrate Lucille's Life"" was held Saturday evening, Oct. 23. We welcome friends and family Saturday, Oct. 30, 3 to 4 p.m., to the Hyrum 8th Ward Relief Society room at 595 S. 200 East to visit, reminisce and enjoy. Graveside services will follow in the Hyrum Cemetery at 4:30 to 5 p.m.
Lucille was born in Belvedere, Calif., to the family of Jesse Alonzo and Beaulah Caroline Kimball Hancock and 2½ year old big sister, Louise. It was a day of rejoicing as she returned to her heavenly home, parents, sister, husband, Arthur Cruse Pease; grandparents, Jacob Alonzo and Rozella Tyler Hancock, Heber Chase and Louise Trejo Kimball; in-laws, Asa and Maud Cruse Pease; grandson, Steven Todd Pease and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Lucile Wiberg.
Lucille and Art eloped Aug. 11, 1938, to Lordsberg, N.M. They have six children, Arthur J (Susan) Pease, Louise Ann (Mike) Young, Steven Woodrow (Carole) Pease, Linda Marie (Maurice) Wiberg, Nathan Grover (Angela) Pease, Jeffery Lane (Carolynn) Pease. Lucille also has one brother, Jesse Ray (Sammie Jo) Hancock and her dear first cousin, Marie (Paul) Egan.
On May 10, 1939, a year after they eloped, Lucille and Arthur were sealed in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. She will be buried in the silk dress she made for that special occasion. Fifty-five years after their sealing they served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Mesa Temple. Lucille held numerous church positions. Her favorite was working with the Young Women.
Lucille and Art loved to travel traversing across the United States, Mexico, Canada and Hawaii. They blessed their family with many adventures. Favorite times were family trips camping, annual deer hunting, boating, Bear Lake and Lake Powell especially. Thirty-four kids and grandkids celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on the sandy banks of Lake Powell. They were surprised with a huge wedding cake carefully smuggled across the lake from Page, Ariz. Lucille instigated a wild and crazy cake fight when she smashed the first piece of cake all over Art's face. Many summers their family migrated to Utah's most scenic camping sites where Art and Lucille loved being USNF camp hosts.
Lucille was a bookkeeper at USU Bookstore, worked side by side with her husband farming and building, and was a homemaker with many talents. She was skilled in sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, oil painting, family history and loved square dancing with Art. She was an excellent horsewoman and earned her solo flying license. There were few things she couldn't do, evidenced by her Billiard and Aeronautics awards! The family spent many evenings and Sundays harmonizing while she played the piano and accordion. All of her grandkids sported quilts, crocheted afghans or sleeping bags she made or provided for sleep-over's and game-filled camping trips with Grandma Pease.
She was full of games, vim and vigor. It was so hard to watch her wear out. We would like to thank Mom's friends at Pioneer Valley Lodge, PVL Branch Presidency, El Toro Viejo and staff for always making mom feel special, and Integrity Hospice; Delene, Jan, Nick, Rachel, Sadie, Kat, Tiffany, Tessa and Jessica for your gentle care and kindnesses.
We love and miss you Mom and Grandma but are happy you are now in great shape, loving life in another sphere. Our fond memories and traditions will live on until we meet again.

How very fascinating to read 'the rest of the story,' colorful details that Vicci and I enjoyed becoming aware of. By way of AJ, we got to know Louise and Arthur over 45 years ago at Logan, UT and got to feel a kinship with the whole family. Please know of our sincere condolences at this time.
