DeLoy James Elder of Smithfield died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, in his home after a valiant battle with cancer.
DeLoy was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Jan. 12, 1964, to Dallas James and Vonda Renee Elder. DeLoy was the only son with four sisters. He attended Logan city schools, graduating from Logan High School in 1982. While at Logan High, DeLoy excelled at track and basketball. His record for the high hurdles has yet to be broken. In 2007 he was inducted into the Grizzly Wall of Fame for his outstanding basketball achievements. After graduation, DeLoy served an LDS mission in the Cleveland, Ohio, area. He attended USU and Dixie College. He married Lisa Lawrence (later divorced). It was during this marriage that he achieved his main goal in life and became a father. They had two sons, Dallas James Elder and Dakota Jai Elder.
In 2003 he met and married the love of his life, Jennifer Davis. Her two lovely daughters, Sierra and Savannah Howe, completed their family. Jenny remained at DeLoy's side giving love, comfort and support until the very end.
We love you, Jenny!
DeLoy enjoyed spending time with his family and especially loved camping, boating, skiing, four-wheeling, hiking and hunting for arrowheads.
From his youth, Deloy loved cars and successfully owned and operated Elder Auto Brokers. He was also a licensed insurance salesman.
DeLoy was an active elder in the Smithfield 13th Ward.
Our family would like to express our love and gratitude to Dr. Ben-Jacob, Julie and Carrie and all of his friends at the Logan Cancer Center and our Hospice nurse, Jill, and Noel Gil.
DeLoy is survived by his wife, Jennifer Elder; parents, Dallas James and Vonda Renee Elder; parents-in-law, Don and Lulavee Davis; and children, Dallas James Elder, Dakota Jai Elder, Sierra Howe and Savanah Howe. He is also survived by four sisters and their spouses, Vickie Lynn Craw (Scott), Denise Poulsen (Reese), Lisa K. Wood (Curtis) and Julie Renee Jensen (William); brother-in-law, Karl Davis (Shirleen); sister in-law, Sharlene Stokes (Robert); and by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
