Bernice Buiten (Evenhouse), age 83, of Cutler Bay, Florida, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013, thus joining the cloud of witnesses in the "Church Triumphant".
Bernice was born in Oak Park, IL, and was married in that same city 21 years later.
She graduated from Calvin College with a B.A. in Education and a major in Biology in 1951, and was an elementary school teacher
for a few years, a long-time Bible teacher in various Presbyterian churches throughout her lifetime, and a committed wife and mother to her family.
Surviving is her spouse of 61 years, William (Bill) Buiten; children, Cheryl Buiten Carver (m. Donald Carver) and Lisa Buiten Heath (m. Robert Heath); grandchildren, Sara Carver Fridsma (m. Tim Fridsma), David Carver, Katherine Carver, Douglas Heath and Julie Heath; great-grandchildren, Jane Fridsma and Toby Fridsma.
Bill and Bernice lived in several cities in the U.S. and Canada for many years, and have been active church members in each place.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, November 20, at 11 a.m. at Fellowship Reformed Church, 300 N 168th Ave., with Rev. James Baar officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 19, from 7-9 p.m. at Dykstra Funeral Home-Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Ave., Holland.
