Frederick Jay Geary

Frederick Jay Geary, 83, of Holland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 7, 2014.

Fred is survived by his wife, Joanne; his children, Kathie Perrault, Fred (Ruth) Geary, Laura (Jon) Marialke, all of Holland, Tim (Glennis) Geary of Kentucky, Teresa Geary of Indianapolis, and Brian (Janice) Geary of Zeeland; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Ken Duemler of Portage; in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Fred was born and raised in Grand Rapids where he graduated from Catholic Central High school. A Korean War Veteran, he served in the U.S. Air Force attaining a rank of Staff Sargent before embarking on his engineering career. A retired Electronics Engineer from Robertshaw Controls (Holland), Fred earned several U.S. Patents during his career. Though he would rather be at home than anywhere else in the world, he found himself serving his country overseas, vacationing in Japan and sometimes working in Europe. Fred was an actor, soldier, poet, singer, artist, inventor, husband and father. He was a friend to many, often giving council and a helping hand to those in need. He was a dynamic man who loved life and met people where they were, never asking them to be something they weren't.

The memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Community Church of Douglas, 6874 Wiley Road, Douglas. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd St., Holland.
