Harris Gordon Boes, age 81, of Zeeland, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Hospice House of Holland.
Harris was born April 15, 1932, to William and Gertrude Boes in Graafschap. He married Mildred DeKleine on January 13, 1956, in Zutphen. Harris served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War
. He was a past Chaplain of the VFW
Post 2144 in Holland, and Co-Owner of Jay's Body Shop in Zeeland until his retirement. Harris spent many years camping, golfing, and playing horseshoes at Sandy Pines Resort with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, going up north to his son's property in Ruby Creek, and camping in his motor home in Scottville. He was a member of Community Reformed Church in Zeeland, the Holland VFW Post 2144, and the American Legion.
Harris was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Lucas and Tillie DeKleine; brother, Jay Boes; in-laws, Nora DeKleine-Kloosterman, Edwin (Bernice) DeKleine, Nelson Victory; and a granddaughter, Robin Boes.
Harris is survived by his loving wife, Mildred "Millie" Boes of 58 years; children, Wayne Boes (friend Sheri Woodworth), Kathy (Gary) Mehrtens, Cal (Sally) Boes, Sheryl (Tom) Dykstra, Faith (Chad) Klungle, Mary (Steve) Jacobs; grandchildren, Bill (Sarah) Boes, Sam (Melody) Mehrtens, Joe Mehrtens, Anne (Mike) Ulanski, Heather Boes, Matt Boes (fiancee' Lauren Boynton), Kyle (Chelsea) Dykstra, Kelsey Dykstra, Emily Dykstra, Corey Klungle, Brandon Klungle, Amanda Jacobs, Kelli Jacobs; his great-grandson, Lincoln Mehrtens; in-laws, Dorothy Victory, Harriet (Jerald) Boerman, and Jean Boes.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at Community Reformed Church, 10376 Felch St., Zeeland. Officiating will be Dr. Dann Stouten and Rev. Greg Ten Brink. Burial will be in Zeeland Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, March 30, from 4-7 p.m. at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James St., Holland.
