Marvin J. Reenders(1925 - 2014)

Marvin J. Reenders, age 88, of Grand Haven, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at home surrounded by his family. Marv was born July 13, 1925, to Clarence and Angie (Fisher) Reenders in Grand Haven. He married Phyllis Bell on June 21, 1945, in Holland. Marv worked and was a partner in Reenders Construction Co. for many years. He and his brothers, Ken and Lawrence, began planting blueberries in 1955, and continued growing blueberries at Reenders Blueberry Farms until 2000 after which time he began Crossroads Blueberry Farm with his son, David, and continued working until 2012. Marv was a charter member of Hope Reformed Church. He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Mom would fix dinner every Sunday evening and kids, grandkids and great-grandkids would fill the house with noise, laughter and conversation. His life-long interest was in collecting and restoring antique cars and tractors, his favorite being Model A's. Marv was a member of the Portside A's Antique Car Club of Muskegon, Vintage Car Club of Holland, Dusty Wheels Car Club of Grand Haven and the MARC Model-A Restore of America group. In addition to teaching 4-H club, he was a charter member of the Grand Haven Township Fire Department where he served for 46 years as both a volunteer fireman and assistant chief.

Marv will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 69 years, Phyllis; daughters, Beverly (Rex) Petersen of Grand Haven, Cheryl (Alan) Slater of Grand Haven, Judy (Jay) Berry of Fox, AR, Carol (Charles) Scott of Meridian, ID, Cindy (Brian) Wisman of Grand Haven, Mary Lynn (Michael) Baker of Grand Haven; son, David (Kelley) Reenders of Grand Haven; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lawrence (Jeanne) Reenders of Grand Haven, Kenneth (Shirley) Reenders of Grand Haven; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Holzinger Feriend and great-granddaughter, Braylen Berry.

The funeral service for Marv will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014, at Hope Reformed Church with Pastor Tim Taylor and Rev. Arnold VanBeek officiating. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family from 2–4 and 6–8 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home.
