Roger “Dutch” Thompson Sr.

Roger "Dutch" Thompson Sr., age 81, of Holland, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Spectrum Health-Butterworth. Roger was born in Holland and was a lifelong resident of the area.

He retired from Spartan Stores in 1992. He then worked at Holiday Inn until he left to oversee the rebuilding of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, following the fire in 1995. Roger was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. He served in the United States Army following the Korean Conflict.

Roger was preceded in death by two daughters, Teresa Grose in 2006 and Pamela Walker in 2007. He is survived by his wife, Nancy of 56 years; children, Roger Jr. and Ann Thompson, Joanne and Dan Beauchamp, Jeff and Julie Thompson, Cheryl Thompson, and Mark and Sharon Thompson; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; brother, Harvey and Jo Ann Slotman; several in-laws, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 195 West 13th Street, with Father Stephen Dudek officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue.
