Phillip Hill, 77
Phillip Blair Hill of Holland, age 77, peacefully joined his Lord on July 31, 2013, in Phoenix, AZ, after a brief illness.
Phillip was born in Lansing to Floyd and Irma Hill. After graduating from Bath High School, Phillip joined the U.S. Marines and served his country in Korea. After his return, he received a B.A. in Engineering from
Michigan State University
. He later went on to get his Masters in Education from Michigan State and a Doctorate in Education from the
University of Michigan
. He was a high school math and science teacher for the West Ottawa Public School systems. Phillip was also active with sailboat racing. He did race committee work for many years with Macatawa Bay Yacht Club and Lake Michigan Sail Racing Federation. Phillip also worked with the West Michigan Marine Corp Toys for Tots as well as the Michigan State Defense Force. Phil was the Executive Officer for the 5th Battalion, 1st Brigade of the Michigan State Defense Force until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna (Nyland) Hill; his daughter, Julie Lynhn (Robert) Oring of Phoenix, AZ; sisters, Patricia (Clyde) Risdon of Laingsburg, Caroly (Geoff) Krone of Dexter; brother-in-law, Lloyd (Marilyn) Nyland of Holland; several nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of Phillip's life to be announced at a later date.
