Russell G. "Russ" Rescorla, age 82, passed away on November 7, 2013, in Cape Coral, FL.

Russ was born on May 10, 1931,in Grand Haven, the son of Fred and Gertrude (Van Dunnen) Rescorla. He attended Grand Haven High School where he was named an all-star football player in 1948. Russ then attended the University of Michigan where he played in the 1951 Rose Bowl and graduated with a degree in psychology. After college, Russ served two years in the U.S. Army, primarily stationed in Okinawa. Always active in sports, while there, his unit took the Far East championship in their baseball league.

Russ married Marlene LeJeune in September, 1955, after returning to the University of Michigan where he graduated a second time with a degree in civil engineering. Russ and Marlene settled in Holland to start their family. Throughout the course of his career, Russ worked on numerous construction management projects, including work on power plants, schools and hospitals. The family relocated to Wisconsin in 1976, where Marlene passed away in June of 1984.

In December of 1987, Russ married Betty Lindsay in Nashua, IA. In 1992, after working on projects in several states, Russ retired, and he and Betty moved to Cape Coral, FL, where he enjoyed year-round golfing for many years.

Russ is survived by his wife, Betty; four children, Diane Rescorla of Milwaukee, WI, David (Mary) Rescorla of Port Charlotte, FL, Theresa Watzke of Madison, WI, Matthew (Jennifer) Rescorla of Fredonia, WI; two stepchildren, David (Kip) Lindsay of Clarksville, TN, and Denise (Barney) Sadler of Manhattan, KS. He is further survived by his sister, Phyllis Peacock of Traverse City; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter, Deborah (Al) Holderman; and brothers, Jerry, Bob, Chuck, Bill and Don.

A memorial open house will be at The Windsor of Cape Coral, 831 Santa Barbara Blvd., from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13. A memorial service will be in Grand Haven in spring of 2014. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the .
