Wilma Jeanette Galema Obituary
Wilma Jeanette Galema was received into her eternal rest on March 13, 2014.

She was born to Martin J. and Effie M. (Heerdt) Galema on July 5, 1925, in Lafayette, IN, where she lived most of her life. Wilma graduated from Jefferson High School in 1943. She was employed by Duncan Electric/Landis & Gyr as a professional secretary for 49 years, retiring in 1992. Wilma took great pride in her job, which began in the time of manual typewriters and continued beyond retirement when Wilma taught computer word-processing classes. She spoke fondly of the people she worked with as her engineers. She came out of retirement to work at Technology Transfer for six years.

Wilma was a member Lafayette Christian Reformed Church and the Lafayette Christian School Society. She was active in the International Association of Administrative Professionals, serving as officer at the Lafayette Chapter and Indiana Division levels. She was also part of the St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary and Lafayette Symphony Guild. Wilma enjoyed bowling, golf and singing alto in the church choir.

In 2007, Wilma moved to Holland where she joined 14th St. Christian Reformed Church, and sang for a time with Evergreen Singers.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Gerald Baas; and brother, Joseph Galema. One sister-in-law, Lois Galema; and nine nieces and nephews survive her, Joseph Galema, Jr., Sheryl (Stephen) Stam, Diane (Ed) Ritzema, Mary (Marvin) Hofman, Jane (Craig) Friesema, John (Beth) Baas, James (Stephanie) Baas, Steven (MaryJo) Baas, Daniel Baas. She is also survived by 23 great-nieces and nephews; and 13 great-great-nieces and nephews. Wilma dearly loved her family and was known to all as Auntie.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday, March 17, at 14th St. Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Marvin Hofman officiating. Visitation is at the church one hour before the service. A service of Christian burial will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette, IN, at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, with visitation at the cemetery from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Lunch will follow at Lafayette Christian Reformed Church. Memorials may be made to Calvin College or Dordt College.
