Jean Dixson Obituary

DIXSON, JEAN passed away on May 16, 2012. Jean Fulton Dixson was truly an All American Girl. Born on July 4, 1916 in Aurora, Nebraska, Jean was one of six children who grew up in the Nebraska farm lands under a single parent. She and her family survived the Great Depression and in the mid 1930's she moved to Washington DC to seek work. There she reunited with the love of her life, Herbert Dixson, and they were married in 1939. World War II provided another challenge as she lost her only brother in the skies of Europe and saw her husband off to service in the Pacific. Herbert returned home to meet his first son, then three years old.

Jean and her husband of more than 63 years were constant companions raising two sons and guiding them through schools, sports, and eventually successful careers. Jean led a full and wonderful life. She was an avid golfer, playing almost daily well into her 80's. After that she remained committed to the game, as she did not miss a golf event on television. She loved clothes and only she could get away with the colorful ensembles that she always wore…whether it be golfing, a formal occasion, or even bedtime attire. She had true style.

Jean was always thankful for the countless friends she had over the years, including those now residing at Ginger Cove. She was a good friend and in return she had many.

Jean is survived by her two sons, Herbert Lee Dixson, Jr. and James Fulton Dixson. Lee is married to Carolyn Dixson and Jamie is married to Abby Dixson. Her life was devoted to her family and she took great pride in her grandchildren: Herbert Lee Dixson, III and his wife Marie, Jennifer Dixson Clune and her husband Patrick, Bethany Dixson Pautrat and her husband Chris, and Matthew Dixson. She has six great-grandchildren who were a continuing source of joy. She is also survived by her loving sister, Margaret Stewart of Manhattan Beach, California.

Special thanks to her caring doctor of 35 years, Dr. Joseph Friend, and to her daughter and best friend, Carolyn.

Jean lived her life with integrity, class and incredible courage. She was and remains an inspiration to her entire family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at Ginger Cove Friendship Hall, 4000 River Crescent Drive, Annapolis, on Friday, June 1 at 11:00 AM. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.johnmtaylorfuneralhome.com
