Bertha Dupre Lyons, 76, a native of Pointe-aux-Chenes, and longtime resident of Chauvin, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, after a long battle of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chauvin. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Sidney "T-Boy" Lyons Sr.; sons, Sidney Lyons Jr. and companion, Colleen Peltier, and Scott Lyons; daughters, Wanda Brien and husband, C.J. "Pedro," and Susie Peltier and husband, Rodney; brother, Norman Dupre and wife, Barbara; sister, Elsie Authement and husband, Eugene; grandchildren, Lance Lapeyrouse and wife, Dee, Lee Peltier and wife, Toni, Jake Peltier and wife, Kayla, Andrew Lyons and companion, Brittany Daigle, and Heidi Lyons; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Seth, Brittany, Kamryn, Kaydon and two more on the way; great-great-grandchild, Braelynn; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Agnes Dupre; and daughter-in-law, Veronica Dupre Lyons.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Having to retire from her job as a produce manager at the Piggly Wiggly due to her illness, "Maw Bert" loved her job and co-workers like they were family.
She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of Americas.
She loved football and baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves, the Saints and the LSU Tigers. She loved reading, crossword puzzles, sewing, cooking and most of all spending time with her family.
The family would like to thank the Haydel Medical Clinic, Dr. Russell Henry, nurses and staff of Terrebonne General Medical Center and Amedysis for taking such wonderful care of Bertha. Most of all our deepest and heartfelt appreciation goes to Dr. Dickie Haydel for the 40-plus years of taking such great care of her. She felt her life was in great hands.
