Donald Joseph Pellegrin, 80, a native of Chauvin and resident of Houma, died Sunday, March 3, 2013.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 11 a.m. until funeral time Thursday at Annunziata Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery.
He is survived by his sons, Donald Pellegrin Jr. and wife, Elvina "Mickey", Duane Pellegrin and fiancée, Donna, Frank Pellegrin and wife, Kathy, Gregg Pellegrin and wife, Faith, Peter Pellegrin and wife, Jeanette, and Jeffery Pellegrin and wife, Uma; two daughters, Suzanne Samocki and husband, Peter, and Marguerite Pellegrin; one adopted daughter, Pam Picou and husband, Harry; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two honorary "wives", Alice Duplantis Elliot and Joyce Duplantis Matherne; and one honorary "fling", Cathy Duplantis.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Harriet Duplantis Pellegrin; parents, Adolph Joseph Pellegrin and Ethel Chauvin Pellegrin; stepmother, Hazel Benson; brothers, Joseph Adolph Pellegrin, David "Dale" Pellegrin and Clyde Pellegrin; and sisters, Hazel Claunche, Leona Rousseaux and Marion Giddion.
He was a member of Annunziata Catholic Church, a charter member of the Annunziata Knights of Columbus and worked with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He served in the U.S. Navy
during the Korean Conflict
and was retired from Halliburton.
He loved his family, his God, a good cup of coffee and a cold bottle of "Coronado".
He leaves behind a legacy of laughter and togetherness that his family will carry on for generations to come.
He will be lovingly missed and forever celebrated.
