Louis Ray Ponville, 77, a native and resident of Houma, died at 12:45 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2013.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until funeral time Thursday at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mercedes Blanchard Ponville; son, Steven "Steve" Ponville; daughters, Karen and husband, Doug Bruce, and Cheryl and husband, Gregg Denniss; grandchildren, Donny Boudreaux, of Shreveport, David and Josh Ponville, of Houma, Brittany and Brooke Denniss, of Houston, Texas, and Patricia Ponville, of Atlanta, Ga.; great-grandchildren, D.J. McKinley, Brock Bergeron, of Houma, and Emily Ponville, of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Brenda Malbrough, of Houma; and brothers, Reynold Ponville and Freddie "F.J." Ponville, of Houma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Friedman J. Ponville and Lillian Vidal Ponville; brother, Leonce Ponville; and sister, Ethel Sevin.
He was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral and was retired from the oilfield after 46 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps
Reserves from 1955 to 1961. He was a very devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
