Mathew James Arceneaux, 28, a native and resident of Houma, died of complications from nerve cancer at 6:35 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma from 9:30 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral in Houma. Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with interment in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
Matt is survived by his parents, Judge David Arceneaux and Frances Lagarde Arceneaux of Houma; his sister, Katherine Arceneaux DeWater and husband, Jason of Omaha, Neb.; his brother, Jeffrey Arceneaux and wife, Amanda Silva Arceneaux of Houma; his paternal grandparents, Gerald and Kathy Arceneaux of Bourg; and his nieces and nephews, Noah Arceneaux, Annabelle DeWater, Vivienne DeWater and Emmitt DeWater.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Francis "Scooper" Lagarde and Berlien Grabert Lagarde of Thibodaux.
Matt was a graduate of Vandebilt Catholic High School and Delgado Community College. He was employed by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office.
The family wishes to express its appreciation to all Matt's friends, co-workers, and others who brought him comfort and joy in the last weeks of his life, especially Father Jerry Villarubia, Father Andre Melancon, the members of the Vandebilt Class of 2002, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office, and Robert, Tammy, Nathaniel, Patty, and Laura of Haydel Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the St. Gregory Elementary School Fund or other
