Dianna Cheramie Obituary

Dianna Cochennic Cheramie, 76, a native of Larose and long time resident of Galliano, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016. A wake will be held Friday, July 8, 2016 from 5 p.m – 9p.m. at Falgout Funeral Home in Galliano with a Rosary prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral mass time at 11 a.m on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galliano with interment in the church mausoleum.

She is survived by four sons, Kirk, Peter and wife, Beth, Gabriel, and Michael and wife, Tarina; four daughters, Susan C. Terrebonne and husband, Glen Sr., Connie C. Daigle and husband, Jeffery, Teresa C. Crosby and husband, Jefferson "Sonny", and Annette C. Weaver and husband, Richard; one sister, Elaine C. Simon and husband Dr. William "Bill" of Lafayette; one brother, Joffery Jr. "Jay" Cochennic and wife Doris of Cut Off; 27 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Albert J. Cheramie; parents Joffery and Kate Bourg Cochennic.

Dianna was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and a strong voice for family unity. The fierce love she gave to her family was grounded in her love of God and devotion to her Roman Catholic faith. As a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she was an extraordinary Eucharistic minister, past member of the Lady's Altar Society, and a dedicated youth group leader. She strongly fought against abortion and was an outspoken advocate for unborn children and all children. She believed in helping her community and was a founding member of the Catholic Community Center.

She worked hand-in-hand with her husband in the family boat business and was an astute business woman. However, first and foremost she was a homemaker. After raising eight children, she thoroughly enjoyed being an artist, seamstress, gardener, and traveler. She will be lovingly missed by her family.

I am so sorry to hear this. I met her and her family at Richard Cochennic's home one year at a family reunion. I loved her stories of the family and of years passed. You all are in my prayers.

I just found out of my friend, Dianna's passing.
We were school friends, and she was my Maid of Honor, and Al was our Best Man, when Sonny and I got married, in 1955. Spoke to her over the phone, when she was in a home in Thibodaux. It was so good to talk to her.
My heart and love goes out to her family.
She will be missed.

My sister, Ellen Cheramie Heidenreich, and I were blessed enough to be able to spend a lot of time with Mrs. Dianna in the last few weeks while she was at Broadway Nursing Home along with our Father. We ate a lot of meals together and helped her tend to her tomato plants. I had not seen much of her over the years but time didn't affect our relationship any, we fell back into conversations like we had been around each other all along. We are so sorry for your loss but happy we have gained a very good angel. Rest in peace Mrs. Dianna and enjoy being reunited with Mr. Albert. God Bless you all.

Kirk and the rest of the Cheramie family. My sincere condolences on the loss of your mother. We were neighbors in our youth and I often babysat so your mother and father could go out. I remember those days fondly. She was a lovely woman. She and Al are together again. May she have eternal rest in the loving arms of her Lord.

This woman was just amazing. She filled a void in my life I didn't even know I had. She gave nothing but love. Although we didn't get to see each other as often as we used to, she was often in my thoughts and always in my heart. She is reunited with Uncle Al and her loving family in Heaven. She is probably organizing something already. Much love to the family and deepest condolences.
