Obituary

Whitney Joseph Authement Jr., 92, a native and resident of Montegut, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be from 8:30 till funeral time Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Anna Belle Naquin Authement; son, Wayne Paul Authement and wife, Kathy Arceneaux Authement; son, Steven John Authement and wife, Linda Austin Authement; grandchildren, Benny James Authement and wife, Candice Rickman Authement, Jason Paul Authement and wife, Margaret Hebert Authement, Samuel Whitney Authement and wife, Angela Naquin Authement, Claude Peter Authement and wife, Kellie Lirette Authement, Lauren Elizabeth Authement, and Christopher Austin Authement; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Whitney Joseph Authement Sr. and Mary May Robicheaux Authement; and two sisters, Mamie Authement Browder and Sylvia Marie Authement.
He was a graduate of Delgado Community College and a draftsman with Higgins Industries in New Orleans before joining the U.S. Navy. He served four years and was honorably discharged as acting chief (AMMc1). He was an active member with multiple officer positions in the Montegut American Legion for over 64 years. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a self-employed business owner for thirty years and retired at the age of 56. He loved most spending time with his family and friends, traveling, fishing, golfing and hunting. In his later years as a member of the Cruisin' Cajuns RV Club, he traveled with Anna Mae and Nikki.
He served on the board of First National Bank, was president of the Gator Club, and was a member of the Montegut Volunteer Fire Department.
He was an active parishioner and usher at Sacred Heart Church. He was also involved in numerous other local organizations.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the or to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, 8120 Main St., Houma, La. 70360.
