Chester Chiasson died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, in Larose.
His body was donated to the LSU Medical Center in New Orleans. A memorial service was Oct. 4, 2013, at Holy Rosary School in conjunction with the school Mass.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mae Rose T. Bourg Chiasson; daughter, Kathleen Chiasson Hunter; grandchildren, Tara Plaisance Sutton and husband, John II, and Dallas Hunter and wife, Hannah; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Usey, Elle Hunter, Erin Hunter, John Sutton III and Ashley Sutton; brother, Michael P. Chiasson; and sister, Grace C. Pellegrin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abel J. Chiasson and Nora M. Arabie Chiasson; grandparents, Henry Chiasson, Thelma Plaisance Chiasson, Ellis Arabie and Elisia Dufrene Arabie; brother, Rodney L. Chiasson; and sister, Betty T. Chiasson Boudreaux.
He was an administrator and financial consultant. He was co-chairman of the Louisiana Society for Crippled Children, executive vice-president of the 10th Ward Veterans Corporation and director of operations for the 10th Ward Veterans Memorial District. Chester joined the Marines in 1951 after graduating from Golden Meadow High School. He served in Korea from 1951 to 1953 and completed three tours of duty with the First Marine Division Special Forces. He served a total of eight years in the marines. He was discharged in 1959 and received three Bronze Battle Stars, a Presidential Unit Citation with a Bronze Star, the China Service Metal and numerous medals for bravery. He attended Nicholls Junior College and worked 16 years for the Lafourche Parish School board. His hobbies were collecting coins, carpentry and yard work. He was a gun collector. He loved playing football, basketball, baseball, softball and fast pitch softball. He kept lots of football scores, high school, college and professional.
