Claire Tatum-Palestina passed away Friday, July 5, 2013, from small cell cervical cancer she had been fighting for the past 5 1/2 years.
Friends of the family are invited to attend visitation at 11 a.m. and a memorial service at noon Thursday at the Academy of Sacred Heart Chapel, 4521 St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans. Please come and celebrate the life of Claire with her family at the visitation and memorial service.
Claire was daughter of the late Marion "Tic" and Sara Nell Tatum. She was the loving wife of Larry Palestina and the devoted mother of Beau, Ben and Betsy Bradshaw. She was the step-mother of Marc and Robert Palestina. She was a sister to Lucy Morvant and Tina (Dean) Genhbauer and an aunt to her niece Tiffany St. John and nephew, Tatum Gehbauer.
Claire was a graduate of Thibodaux High School where she ran track and Nicholls State University where she received her master's in special education. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority, a cheerleader for the Colonels and a member of the Home Coming Court. She was TKE little sister and was very involved in several school activities.
She taught at Acadian Elementary School in Houma and at St. Matthews the Apostle School in River Ridge. Claire was very active in all of her children's school activities and played tennis with her five tennis friends. She was an avid sports fan for the Saints, Pelicans, Yankee's and LSU.
She was in the ladies Leukemia League.
She loved her three dogs, cat and fish. She was very generous and supported a number of charities.
She was a wife, a mother and a friend to all and will be sadly missed by so many.
