Irving Legendre Sr., 81, a native and resident of Chackbay, went to be with his Lord at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at Life Tabernacle Church in Chackbay. Religious services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in Vacherie.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Adelina Becnel Legendre; sons, Avery Joseph Legendre and wife, Mary, of Thibodaux, and Irving Joseph Legendre Jr. and Janice, of Chackbay; daughters, Trudy Legendre Usey and husband, Rev. Dale R. Usey, of Lewisburg, W. Va. and Naomi Legendre Campbell and husband, John Campbell Jr. of Chackbay; grandchildren, Janelle Kendrick and husband, Shannon Kendrick, of Raysal, W. VA., Jeremy Usey and Shelby of Lewisburg, W. VA., Carlos Legendre, Avery Antonio Legendre, Brittney Blanchard and fiancé, Michael Dumas, Dalton Blanchard, Heidi Legendre, and Daniel Usey; and great-grandchildren, Hailey, Bayley, Baylen and Noah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Legendre of Chackbay.
Mr. Legendre was a member of the U.S. Army. He was a longtime employee of Avondale Shipyard as a pipefitter. He was affiliated with Life Tabernacle Church in Chackbay.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family.
Thibodaux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
