Patrick Raymond Hebert, 87, was born Aug. 3, 1926, and died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Vincent Funeral Home at 209 S. St. Charles Street in Abbeville. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Visitation will also be from 9 a.m. until the procession departs for church Wednesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest in St. Paul Cemetery with the Rev. William C. Blanda officiating the services.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Guidry, Eric Guidry, Andrew Hebert, Patrick Malone, Kevin Malone and Sam Malone. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters.
He is survived by his sons, Byron R. Hebert and wife, Lolette T., of Abbeville, and Wayne Hebert, of Lafayette; daughters, Patti Kempf, of Lafayette, Jeanie Gascon and husband, George, of Plaquemine, Leslie Malone, of Lafayette, Alexis Guidry and husband, Greg, of Covington, Bonnie Brasseaux and husband, Bob, of Houston, Texas, and Stella Aswell and husband, Chuck, of Lafayette; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Myrtle Rome, of Houma, Mary Ann Holmes, of Lake Charles, and Gail Hebert, of Houma.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Martin Hebert; parents, George Hebert and the former Stella Girouard; and brother, George Hebert Jr.
Pat was a very loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved boats, planes and the LSU Fighting Tigers.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served our country during World War II. He had the privilege of traveling to Washington, D.C., with the Honor Air which allows war heroes to see the World War II monument, the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and more. Patrick was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Vermilion Catholic High School Boosters and Toastmasters.
The Hebert family would like to extend special thanks to his sitters, Debra Frederick, Geraldine Boudreaux, Danielle Broussard and Loyce Walker, for the loving care and attention they gave to their father. Also to Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care of Opelousas for the support and care they provided for their father.
