Richard Waguespack Obituary

Richard Joseph Waguespack, 95, native of Raceland, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013.
A private ceremony at the gravesite will be held for the immediate family.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Edwina Guidry Waguespack: son, Robert J. Waguespack; grandsons, Johnny and James Grabert and their families.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Waguespack Grabert.
Richard joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and helped build Lassen Volcanic National Park in California. During World War II he served under General Patton in Europe. He helped build the first power lines across Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes, worked on the Houma Tunnel until its completion and was a tacker for Avondale Shipyards. He was a retired employee of the Lafourche Parish School Board. He was also a Grand Master Decoy Carver of some renown.
Richard possessed a natural charm that endeared him to everyone he met. His last spoken words were "beautiful wife."
The family would like to thank the staff of the Thibodaux Healthcare Center and St. Catherine's Hospice for their care and compassion during difficult times.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.

My sympathies to the family. I knew him very good, as Barbara and I went to school together...also to the dances. Barbara was one of my best friends and also bride maid in my wedding. I loved both Mr. Waguespack and his wife so much. He was such a wonderful man.
