Lafayette Burkett Jr.

Lafayette "Billy" William Burkett Jr., 56, a native of Lake Jackson, Texas and resident of Houma, died at 11:47 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Monday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.

He is survived by his wife, Darnell Callahan Burkett of Houma; children, William Burkett and companion, Becca Blouin of Houma, Ashley Burkett of Houma, Marisa Mikel of Lake Jackson, Texas, Nicole Pierce and husband, Kipp, of Houma, Holly Griffin and husband, Miles, of Houma and Jerome "Pepe'" Chauvin Jr. and wife, Alonna, of Houma; his father, Lafayette William Burkett Sr.; grandchildren, Brayden Rhodes, Darien "D.J." Tolbert, Jordan Tolbert, Dillion Tolbert, Jamar Alston Jr., Tia Mikel, Sophia Pierce, Cameron Griffin, Shannon Liner, Heather Kraemer, Dylan Griffin, Shane Garnett, Jr., Grayson Garnett, Hunter Chauvin, Kelsey Solet, Cullen Chauvin and Chloe Chauvin; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharon Floyd and Carol Hensley; sisters-in-law, Christine and husband, Richard, Joretta and husband, Ronnie, and Janna and husband, Kerrell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorthea June Tidwell Burkett; and son, Lafayette "Bucky" Burkett III.

He retired from the oilfield as a salesman. He served in the Navy during peacetime. He enjoyed spending time in his vegetable garden and loved the New Orleans Saints. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
