Lester Guidry

Lester James Guidry, 81, a native and resident of Houma, died at 12:29 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. til a military service held at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Liturgy of the Word will follow at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lorraine Powers Guidry of Houma; sons, James Guidry and wife, Paige, of Houston and Arthur Guidry of Houma; daughters, Ellen Richey, Memphis, Tenn., Karen Billgren and husband, Ricky, of Rogers, Ark., Cindy Daire and husband, Michael, of LaCombe, Patricia Warner and husband, Bryan, of Pensacola, Fla.; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Clay of Stone Mountain, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elie Guidry and Estelle LeBlanc Guidry; and brother, Lee Bert Guidry.

He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church.

Lester served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant during the Korean War. He was stationed in numerous areas, stateside. He was a decorated, expert marksman and an instructor. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged on Feb. 6, 1960.

He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, a past member of The Rotary Club and member of the Houma Pistol Club. He was a past president of the Parent Teacher Association at St. Bernadette Catholic School.

Lester was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was loved by numerous people of the community and will be missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Wounded Warriors Association or the in his name.
