Kerman J. Rodrigue Sr. 89, a native and resident of Chackbay, was born Feb. 24, 1924, and passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until funeral time Tuesday at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Chackbay. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his daughter, Myra Durocher and husband, Delmas Jr.; sons, Kerman Jr. and wife, Katherine Folse Rodrigue, Randy and wife, Linda Kirkland Rodrigue, and Jody and wife, Myrna Legendre Rodrigue; brother, Freddie Rodrigue and wife, Betty Esten Rodrigue; sister, Dolly Perque; grandchildren, Darby and wife, Sandra Campo Durocher, Dodie Durocher, Kyle Rodrigue, Rhonda and husband, Clint Rogers, Blake and wife, Jamie Gaidry Rodrigue, Jenna and husband, Scotty Lirette, and Becca and Karra Rodrigue; great-grandchildren, Danielle, Emily, Derek, and Anna Durocher, Mason and Marley Rodrigue, and Logan and Lauryn Rogers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Claire Simon Rodrigue; parents, Alcee and Angeline Bergeron Rodrigue; brothers, Claude, Wilbot, Gaston Sr. and Alcee Jr. Rodrigue and Whitney Trosclair; brother-in-law, Leo Perque; and sisters-in-law, Laura O. Rodrigue, Claudia O. Rodrigue and Rosalie L. Trosclair.
He was a World War II veteran, a former Lafourche Parish School Board Member from 1959 to 1964, a retired Lafourche Parish School bus driver for 24 years (bus No. 2); a life member of VFW Post No. 5097; and a former usher for Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. He was a former truck farmer who enjoyed growing vegetables. He also enjoyed traveling and playing cards.
Although from humble beginnings, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank his devoted caregivers, Jackie Rodrigue, Meca Domangue, Yvette Clement, Mae Thibodaux, Francis LaRose and Jessie Chapman and St. Joseph Hospice.
