Michael Joseph Madere, 58, a resident of Baton Rouge and native of Thibodaux, died after a lengthy illness and brief stay at Carpenter House Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until funeral time Tuesday at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Cynthia Sessums Madere; mother, Barbara Albert Madere; brothers, Dr. Ronald A. Madere and wife, Yvonne Becnel Madere, and Steven Anthony Madere and wife, Rhonda Benoit Madere; sister, Martha M. Peltier and husband, Stephen Peltier; brother-in-law, Dr. Stephen Sessums and wife, Mary Ann Cangelosi Sessums; one niece; four nephews; one grandnephew; a host of step-nieces and step-nephews; and his beloved Standard Poodles Emerson and Oliver.
He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore J. "Ted" Madere Jr.; nephew, Ryan Sessums; and brother-in-law, Rene Chiasson.
A licensed clinical social worker, Michael was a graduate of Thibodaux High School, Nicholls, and LSU. He also attended the Nelson Mandela School of Public Policy. He was a retired employee of Pupil Appraisal Services of East Baton Rouge Parish Schools and served as an adjunct professor at LSU.
Michael was a talented vocalist, having sung in many area cathedrals, and was a First Chair Baritone in the "Austria Band." He enjoyed participating in Little Theatre productions and his love for opera and the musical arts comforted him during his illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope for Animals in Thibodaux, the American Liver Foundation or any charity.
