Michael Ernest Liebert, 55, died peacefully Saturday, May 3, 2014, at home with his family after a long illness.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Wednesday St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux. A Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Wednesday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathleen Hillman Liebert; son, Christopher Liebert and wife, Chelsey Boyd Liebert; daughter, Leslie Liebert; grandchildren, Savannah and Travis Liebert, and Violet Liebert; sisters, Lorraine Liebert, Cynthia Robertson and husband, Harold, Katherine Liebert, Mary Ellen Liebert, and Julie Turner and husband, Ken; brothers, Fred Liebert Jr., and Ralph Liebert and wife, Wendy; numerous nieces and nephews; and in-laws, Dr. Bill and Connie Hillman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lt. Col. USAF (Ret.) Fred M. Liebert and Nell Leger Liebert.
Mike was born Oct. 13, 1958, at Sewart Air Base in Smyrna, Tenn. He graduated from USL with a degree in Geology. He was a petroleum geologist who worked in exploration for 30 years and was a member of the National Association of Geologists.
In his healthier years, Mike loved to hunt with his son and friends, enjoyed working in his yard and gardens, and loved watching movies. Mike played high school and college football, loved to run, swim and competed in many triathlons. He loved watching football, especially the Ragin' Cajuns, LSU and the Saints.
Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He loved his children dearly and was most proud of them. He will be so dearly missed by all of his family and friends.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful care givers, the staff of Hospice Ministries, the staff of St. Dominic Hospital of Jackson, Miss., and especially Jo Baily.
