Morris J. Granier, 95, a native and resident of Kraemer, was born April 2, 1919, and passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until funeral time Friday at St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church in Kraemer. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his children, Rudy (Nita) Granier, Toby (Garnet) Granier, Dottie Granier (Nolan) Cortez, Wanda Granier (Douglas) Cortez, Nathan (JoAnn) Granier, and Sandra Granier (Erik) Himmel; sister, Oneida G. Ockman; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Hotard Granier; son, Morris Granier Jr.; parents, Leonard and Sidonie Martinez Granier; brothers, Willie and Wilbert Granier; sisters, Odiana G. Cortez, Cecile G. Hotard, Elminte G. Kraemer, and Leonise Granier Boudoin; grandson, Tristen Cortez; and step-great-grandson, Ethan Napier.
Morris worked for Maybrother and Bowie Land and Lumber for 40 years and retired from Bowie Land and Lumber. He was also a part-time deputy for Lafourche Parish for 17 years. He started fur trapping at a very young age, which grew into a lifetime hobby for more than 80 years. He lived a full productive life up until a few months ago. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a good provider for his family and grandchildren and a great friend to all. He helped build the foundation for St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church and continued to be a lifelong faithful parishioner. He will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to both St. Joseph Hospice and St. Catherine's Hospice. They would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Audubon Guest House and management team.
