Carol Antoine Hymel, 80, passed away Sunday Aug. 17, 2014, surrounded by his loving family at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until funeral time Wednesday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Vacherie. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, officiated by the Rev. Mike Michelli, with burial in St. Phillip Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rosalie Gravois Hymel; children, Jerry Hymel and wife, Linda, Jackie Hymel Richard and husband, Mark, Brian Hymel and wife, Gina, Carolyn Hymel Robichaux and husband, Doug, and Melanie Hymel Toups and husband, Chad; brother, Clarence Hymel and wife, Shirley; sisters, Joyce Hymel Dufrense and Cecile Hymel Loup; grandchildren, Chris Hymel, Matthew Hymel, Michelle Richard Gillespie, Alyson Richard, Aimee Richard, Alex Hymel, Katie Robichaux, Emily Robichaux, Nicholas Robichaux, Mary Grace Robichaux, Michael Robichaux, Jacob Toups, William Toups, and Benjamin Toups; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aline Schexnayder Hymel and Severian Hymel; brother, Henry Hymel; and brothers-in-law, June Dufrense, Leroy Loup, Antoine Chenier, and Ernest Gravois.
Carol was a 1952 graduate of Edgard High School and member of the first graduating class of Francis T. Nicholls Jr. College in 1954. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1514 in Vacherie, and a retired sugar cane farmer. He loved to golf and travel. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, always coaching from the sidelines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to E.D. White Athletic or Music Departments.
