Elmer Lawrence Fournier, 83, a native and resident of Houma, died at 5:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Monday at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma and from 9 a.m. until funeral time Tuesday at St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church. A military service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margery Marmande Fournier; sons, Glenn Michael Fournier and wife, Claire, and Tommy Dean Fournier and wife, Melissa; grandson, Michael Fournier; brothers, Russell Fournier, Daniel Fournier and wife, Barbara, and George Fournier; sisters, Georgia Hebert and Barbara Ann White; and sisters-in-law, Theresa, Melva and Catherine Fournier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Onezip and Clemence Breaux Fournier; brothers, Onezip Jr., Louis and Urbain Fournier; brother-in-law, Allen Hebert; and sisters-in-law, Mary Frances and Yvonne Fournier.
Elmer was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church. He served in the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Osprey (minesweeper). He was a former owner of Fournier's Radiator Repair, and retired with Terrebonne Parish School Board. He was an active member of the YMCA.
The family would like to thank the staff of Mary Bird Perkins, third floor nursing staff at TGMC, all his personal care givers, friends, family, and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to the St. Bernadette Building Fund.
