Lois Gautreaux Obituary

Visit the Legacy Remembers website to view the full obituary.
Lois, "Honey," Gautreaux, 78, a native of New Orleans and longtime resident of South Lafourche, passed away on June 3, 2017. Visitation will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cut Off on June 9, from 10 a.m. until service time. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 12 noon, with burial following in Cheramie Cemetery.

She leaves her deeply loved sons, Grant G. Gautreaux and Gwayne A. Gautreaux, grant's companion, Michael J. Malinowski, and her daughter-in-law Marinel R. Gautreaux; her granddaughters, Alexa N. Gautreaux, and Khyle Redillas; her grandsons, Gwayne Jr. and Brendon Gautreaux; and her great-granddaughter, Kamryn R. Gautreaux. Family was Honey's life, which was enriched immensely by her brother, John Lerille and sister-in-law Odette; her brother, Rodney and sister-in-law Joan; her brother, William and Sister-in-Law Linda; and her nieces and nephews, all of whom survive her. She was the daughter of the late Bella Pitre Lerille, and Nelson Lerille, who lived in her heart throughout her life. She was married to Murphy A. Gautreaux for many years, and they were close friends until his death.

Honey worked as a Justice of the Peace and adjudicated matters for 26 years, but she seldom judged people. Rather, she always welcomed others, looked them straight in the eye with warmth, and gave everyone she spoke to her complete attention and the benefit of the doubt. Her mission in life was simply to do good, and that is what gave her pleasure. She also made a legendary gumbo and savored others enjoying it, the more the better.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105

Honey I'm almost an adult now. I miss you so much. I miss sitting with you on the recliner eating ice cream past 1 o'clock. I miss reading you stories. I miss your hugs. I miss washing your back in the shower. I miss your gumbo. I miss watching you cook. I wish you didn't pass. I feel so alone. Every time I see your house when I go to Popas I miss you. Knowing that it is empty hurts me deeply. I wish heaven had a telephone. I love you. I wish you could see how far I've come. Fly high and rest easy beautiful. I love you.

Such a huge loss for your family. I am so sorry. I must tell you, Miss Lois always impressed me even as a little girl. I remember her at the COYC swim meets. She had the prettiest smile.
My mother always spoke highly of her. My prayers are with your family.

Nanny, I will never forget the Sundays we spent together as a family enjoying lunch after Sunday masses and playing in the yard and walking to the woods with my cousins. You were always so caring and insured we were fine. Sitting on the front porch and guessing what color the next car would be was funful for us all. In those days, it took 15 minutes at times before the next car passed by. As we get older and we move on to our own families, separation eventually happens but the memories never fade. You will always be in my heart! I will always love and miss you! Your memories will never go away! With all my love!
