Robert Charles Panko, 68, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at Samart Funeral Home of Houma. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with burial at Rogers Cemetery in Houma.
He is survived by his brother, James and wife, Sandra Panko of Ottawa, Ill.; sister, Norma Panko Bowers of Aurora, Ill.; and good friend, Kathleen Quick.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Panko Sr. and Irene Panko; and brother, John Panko Jr.
Robert began his 33 year career in the marine transportation industry with LeBeouf Bros. Towing in 1979 as a deckhand aboard river vessels, including the Creole Belle, Creole Chief, and Creole Queen, traveling the Mississippi river and its tributaries. He became a tankerman in 1980. In 1988 until the time of his disability in 2011, Robert served aboard the M/V Creole Sue under the leadership of Captain Nolan Ledet.
Robert will be remembered by LeBeouf's owners, employees, Captain Nolan and his crew as a kind, dedicated, capable, hard working man. Merci Beaucoup for your service!
