Louis John Verdun, 93, passed away on Nov. 5, 2012. He was a native of Raceland, La. and resident of Thibodaux, La.
Visitation will be held on Nov. 7, 2012 at St. Joseph Co-cathedral from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. and Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
He is survived by eight children: Louis Jr. (Butch) and wife Virginia, Glenn and wife Eva, Bruce and wife Angie, Gary and wife Judy, Wayne and wife Cindy, Wanda V. LeBlanc and husband Keith, David and wife Laura, and Perry and wife Kay, 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, two brothers; Nelson and Oscar Verdun.
He is preceded in death by his father: Victor Verdun and mother Louise Champagne Verdun, first wife: Rosemary Savoie Verdun, second wife: Gladys Boudreaux Deroche, grandson: Matthew Louise Verdun, brothers; Fred Verdun, Frank Verdun, and Edwin Verdun, sisters: Marie V. Cavallier, and Lucy V LeBlanc.
He was a World War II Army Veteran of the first Cavalry Division mainly serving in the South Pacific. He was wounded in the Philippines in January 1945 where he received a Purple Heart Medal. He was a past member of V.F.W., D.A.V. and American Legion. He was the original partner of L&N grocery, owner of V7's Oasis Restaurant and original partner of Grand Bayou Mobil Home Park.
