Gaston Rodrigue, Sr.

Gaston Rodrigue, Sr., 91, a native and resident of Chackbay, died at 1:58 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2012.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 .m. Monday, Nov. 19 at Thibodaux Funeral Home, and from 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday, Nov. 20 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Chackbay. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m., with internment to follow in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Rita Anastasia Lassere Rodrigue; children Perry Rodrigue Sr., Ruffin Rodrigue Sr. and wife Cecile, Berris Rodrigue Sr. and Bonnie Caro, Donald Rodrigue Sr. and wife Agnes, Gaston Rodrigue Jr. and wife Diane; daughters Ann Marie Danos and husband Wayne, Beryl Ann Ledet and Husband Al; brothers Kerman Rodrigue and Freddie Rodrigue; sister Dolly Perque; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alcee Rodrigue Sr. and Angelina Bergeron Rodrigue; brothers Alcee Rodrigue Jr., Wibot Rodrigue and Claude Rodrigue.

Mr. Rodrigue retired as a major after serving 28 years with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office. He was also a truck farmer, sugarcane farmer and trapper. He and his wife ran a floral nursery, a catering business and a bed and breakfast. He was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus. An avid sports fan, he especially loved his LSU tigers and was founder of the Tiger Club. He was also a founding member of the Chackbay Fire Department and the Poor Man's Parade, now known as Cleophas.

He was loving and patient husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. From humble beginnings, he lived a rich, full life. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

The family wishes to offer a special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Cancer Center of TRMC, the Ambulatory Care Unit at TRMC and ST. Joseph Hospice. Special thanks also to Dr. Chester Boudreaux and Dr. James Schweitzer.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Knights of Columbus Council 8743 in Chackbay, the Cancer Center of TRMC, and/or St. Joseph Hospice.
