Gerald Francis "Jerry" Arceneaux, a native and resident of Bourg, died Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 21, 2012, after a brief illness. He was 80.
Visitation will be at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma on Sunday, Nov. 25, from 5 to 9 p.m., and at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bourg on Monday, Nov. 26, from 8 a.m. until funeral time. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Ann Catholic Church followed by interment in the church cemetery.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Catherine "Kathy" James Arceneaux, of Bourg; his son, Judge David Arceneaux and wife, Frances; his daughter, Terrebonne Parish Clerk of Court Theresa A. Robichaux, and his son, Tim Arceneaux and wife, Kim, all of Houma. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Katherine A. DeWater and her husband, Jason, of Omaha, Neb.; Jeffrey Arceneaux, and his wife, Amanda, of Gray; Stephanie Robichaux of Washington, D.C.; Craig Robichaux of Lafayette; Kayla Arceneaux; Ryan Arceneaux; Jacob Arceneaux; and Joshua Arceneaux of Houma; and his great-grandchildren, Annabelle DeWater, Vivienne DeWater, Emmitt DeWater and Noah Arceneaux.
Jerry is also survived by three sisters, Annabelle A. LeBlanc of Franklin, Texas, Ruby A. Chauvin of Schriever, and Joyce A. LeBlanc of Bourg; and two brothers, Kenneth Arceneaux of Bourg and James Arceneaux of Houma.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Davis Arceneaux Sr. and Louise Boquet Arceneaux; one sister, Flossie A. Bergeron; and four brothers, Raymond Arceneaux, Davis Arceneaux Jr., John Arceneaux and Louis Arceneaux; and one grandson, Mathew Arceneaux.
Jerry was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a member of American Legion Post 272 in Montegut, a retired employee of Texaco, and a lifelong faithful parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church. He was devoted to his wife and family, his church, and his many friends, with whom he often shared the fruits of his labor as an accomplished hunter, fisherman and gardener. He will be missed by many.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the St. Ann Church Building Fund.
