Cortlyn Matthew Authement, 23, a native of Thibodaux, and resident of Dana Point, Calif., died Wednesday, March 6, 2013.
A private memorial service will be on Saturday.
He is survived by his parents, Christopher and Cherisse Vidrine Authement; grandparents, Raphael and Evelyn Guillot Vidrine; aunts and uncles, Larry and Patrice Vidrine Ledet, Douglas and Christina Baker Vidrine, Kathy Authement Rudisill, Tommy Authement and Gregory Authement; cousins, Trey and Patrick Ledet and Lane Vidrine.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Norman and Juliet Rhodes Authement.
Cortlyn was a 2007 graduate of Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts in Natchitoches and a 2011 graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, Calif. Upon graduation, Cortlyn taught English as a second language in Seoul, South Korea, and was employed as an ACT/SAT test prep instructor. Cortlyn was a gifted writer with a passion for philosophy and literature.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts Foundation, 715 University Parkway, Natchitoches, La. 71457, or Pomona College, Office of Donor Relations, 550 North College Avenue, Claremont, Calif. 91711.
Brown Colonial Mortuary in Santa Ana, Calif., is in charge of arrangements.
