Louis Pearce Obituary

Louis Monroe Pearce, Jr. passed away on Wednesday afternoon, the 26th of December 2012, in Houston, Texas.
A native Houstonian, Louis was born on the 17th of February 1917 to the late Louis Monroe Pearce, Sr. and Rosa May Pearce.
Louis attended grade, junior high and part of high school in Houston, and in 1936 he graduated from Texas Military Institute in San Antonio. He attended The University of Texas from 1936 to 1939, majoring in Business Administration and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
Louis proudly served his country by joining the army in 1940 where he reached the rank of sergeant in the horse cavalry. Louis received his commission after attending Officer Candidate School in Fort Riley, Kansas, and was deployed overseas in 1943. He served in all phases of the Italian campaign with the II Corps as a Liaison Officer and later as an aide to Lt. General Keyes, Commander of the II Corps. He was discharged from the Army in November of 1945 with the rank of Major.
Upon Louis' return to civilian life in Houston, he was employed by what is now Waukesha-Pearce Industries, Inc. In 1947 he was appointed president of the corporation, and in 1970 he was appointed president of TIW Corporation as well. In 1976 a holding company, Pearce Industries, Inc., was formed, and he served as Chairman of the Board for all three companies.
Louis' greatest love was his family, and he was their greatest love. In addition, he was blessed to have very special friends spanning several generations, most of whom treasured the many stories he would share about his life experiences. Louis had three great passions that defined him: his ranches, the Houston Livestock and Rodeo and The University of Texas. He served as President and Chairman of the Board of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and continued to be an active member of the Executive Committee until his death. Louis was honored with the Distinguished Alumni award by The University of Texas and was an ardent supporter of UT athletics, especially the football program. He had but one request each year of his dear friend, Coach Mack Brown, "Beat OU !"
Louis' public service accomplishments and honors are almost too numerous to mention. He took special pride in serving as Chairman of The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for a period of twelve years having been appointed by two governors, one a Republican and the other a Democrat. Such was Louis…he was loved by all. Because of his love of horses, he was deeply honored when inducted into both the American Quarter Horse Association and the National Cutting Horse Association Halls of Fame.
Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Cave Pearce. He is survived by his sons, Louis Monroe Pearce III and Vanessa Rene Schillaci, Gary Michael Pearce, Stephen Riley Pearce and Wilhelmina Elizabeth "Beth" Robertson; and by his daughter, Anne Pearce French and husband, Lloyd Robert "Robin" French III. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Autumn Pearce Martens and husband, David Owen Martens, Kelly Pearce Stouse and husband, Michael Christian Stouse, Louis Monroe Pearce IV and wife, Ashley Buffa Pearce, Gary Michael Pearce, Jr., Rex Riley Pearce, Elizabeth Pearce "Libbie" Conner and husband, Robert Hardin "Rob" Conner, Lloyd Robert French IV, Evelyn May French; his great grandchildren, Jesslyn Kelsey Martens, Pearce David Martens, Anna May Rains Stouse, Lawson Pearce Stouse, Grover Lee Stouse, Lee Paden Pearce, Joseph Grant Pearce, and Brantley Kathleen Conner; and his daughters-in-law, Jesslyn Paden Pearce, Debbra Cooper "Debbie" Pearce, and Betsy Dudley Pearce.
Louis was blessed to have many wonderful people take care of him from the beginning of his life to the end, to name a few: Mazine Cunningham, Caroline McIntosh, Dr. Robert Hall, Dr. Mike Wilson, Dr. David Mouton, Juan Garcia, Mickie Clark, Mario Lopez, Margarita and Ricardo Arevalo, Jose Salinas, Jose Oregon and last but not least, all of the dedicated members of his ranch staff.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Mr. Pearce during a reception from five o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 23rd of January, at the River Oaks Country Club, 1600 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston. A uniformed steward from Geo. H. Lewis & Sons is to be positioned in the entrance hall so as to direct guests to the designated venue.
Earlier this month, the family gathered for a private service of remembrance.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in memory of Mr. Pearce may be directed to the Louis M. Pearce, Jr. Scholarship Fund at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, P.O. Box 20070, Houston, TX, 77225-0070; The University of Texas - Longhorn Foundation, P. O. I am so sorry to learn of the passing of Mr. Pearce. He was a great person, friend to our family. I got to spend time with Louis at the 2012 rodeo,we spoke of the past and the great friendship he and my uncle Buddy Bray had in life. I was honored to work for Louis at times, and as a kid when we meet and will never forget what I learned from him and will carry this on and pass it on to my kids as well. The world needs more men like Louis and it would be even a better place, god bless to the family.

Louis, Steve, Gary & Ann,
I will always remeber him as the most charming, generous person - my early days, in Houston, were colored by his & Evelyn's Texas welcome. My children remember riding in the chuck wagon, at the rodeo, at his bequest. He moved mountains for so many causes! John and I offer our deepest sympathy for your loss - how fortunate that you had him for so long.

Over the 56 years of my career, I have met Presidents, Astronauts, political leaders as well as Fortune 500 businessmen.
Have cover Hall of Fame players, coaches, managers and owners.
Without question. Louis Pearce belongs at the top of that elite group.
Moving from New York, the rodeo was a foreign concept. But Louis and his sons gave me a behind the scenes, up close education in one of the most important events in our city.
Most important, his gift of treating common folks with the same class and dignity of his wealthier friends is a trademark of the family.
That legacy has been based down from generation to generation.
My life has been blessed by this true Texas treasure.
May he have a super ride each and every day on his horses in Heaven.

Louis was man bigger than life, who loved life and lived it to the fullest. He showed us all how to take life and wring out every last ounce it had to offer. He never wanted to give up living it untill he could go no futher. He was a great mentor, leader, cheerleader, visonary, family man, and most of all a friend to so many. He loved people and gave so much of himself to so many, but that helped fuel his desire to keep going. He was very giving and always one who put his money where his mouth was, He is truly one of the great Texas legends in so many ways, he created a big shadow and a big footprint to fill. We are blessed to have known him, and better for it. I will miss him and all the fond memories he has left me and our legacy. I know he has joined so many of other greats and picking up where they left off. He has prepared all of those who have followed his lead to be better stewards of what he has left behind. I have very fond memories of Mr. Pearce. I and several other family members are former employees of WPI. My day, James Rogillio, who passed away 10/2/12, was the shop foreman in Corpus Christi in the early 70's.

I spent many summers working on the ranch in Rosharon to stop some soil errosion on the lakes.

He is one of those people I will never forget and the world was a better place for having been here. Rest In Peace, Dear Sir.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the Pearce Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Mr. Pearce was a tremendous friend to our family and we will carry on many fond memories of him. He was one of the finest men we have had the opportunity and privilege to know. We are blessed with all the years we were able to share time together. Mr. Pearce gave me my very first horse I owned back in 1983 and he is still alive today on our ranch. It meant the world to me and I have always been proud of him.
God bless you,
Trey and Michele Fisher

Our dearest memories of LP were of man that lived by example. He gave from his heart and never did he do a deed that was self serving. He appreciated his life and loved his family beyond belief. This man cherished his friends and always wanted to leave this world having made it a better place. LP you did it all and with the grace and style of true gentleman. I love the picture. I see him and Dub saddling their horses at a cutting, laughing and sharing great joy in the fact they were together with their horses and all their friends. Game well played. He has given us all a great play book in which to follow. We hope that we can live up to his wonderful legacy. A man with vision. Thank you to his wonderful family for sharing this great man with all of us with the same style and grace that he lived by......example. God Speed our dear and loving friend. Sandy and Doc
