Frank Knapp

Frank Joseph Knapp, Jr. was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on December 16, 1937 to Frank Joseph Knapp and Inez Reed Knapp. After a long illness, he passed away on August 11, 2013 in Austin, Texas.
In 1941, Frank's family moved to Houston where he attended St. Thomas High School. After high school, he attended the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas School of Law where he received his B.A. and LL.B. degrees. While attending U.T., he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon social fraternity. He was admitted to the Texas State Bar in 1963 and also served in the United States Marine Corps.
Frank was a gentle, spiritual, and compassionate soul who gained his spiritual understanding through the Catholic Church, the Church of Conscious Harmony, Stephen Bodian's School for Awakening, an extensive meditation practice, and the teachings of Dr. David Hawkins. Frank was loving and accepting, and was known to his friends for his character and integrity. He had an infectious laugh and wonderful offbeat sense of humor. He enjoyed reading, travel- especially cruising with family and friends, nature, solitude, spending time at the family farm in Waller County, and spending time with his family and friends. During his lifetime, Frank's business travel included lengthy stays in London, Paris, Alaska, and the Northwest. His adventurous spirit included living in Ajijic, Mexico, and Seefeld, Austria.
After graduating from law school, Frank's professional career included employment as an associate attorney with Butler, Rice, Cash and Knapp in Houston from 1964 to 1968. From 1972 to 1976, he was a senior landman with Exxon in Denver, Colorado. From 1977 to 1987, he was a senior landman for GCO Minerals Corporation in Houston. From 1988 to 1990, he was an attorney with the Texas Housing Agency in Austin, where he met his future wife Edwina Carrington. From 1990 until his retirement in 2006, Frank was an Assistant Attorney General with the Texas Attorney General's Office. After his retirement, Frank took up painting in watercolors, sculpting, and teaching his grandson Austin how to fish at the family farm.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Edwina Carrington Knapp, daughters Christina M. Knapp, Suzannah Knapp Silva and her husband Derek, stepdaughter Meredith Fitzpatrick, grandchildren Austin Knapp and Seth Silva, his first wife Geri S. Austin, brothers Bruce R. Knapp and wife Linda of Scottsdale, Arizona, Larry D. Knapp of Laughlin, Nevada, and sister-in-law Jennifer McCorkle, of Avon, Colorado.
The family would like to thank Dr. James Eskew and Dr. Rene Castillo in Austin, the excellent physicians in the head and neck section at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and special thanks to family friend Alvie Walker.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, 1201 Lavaca, Austin. A reception will follow immediately at Frank and Edwina's home.
