Kathleen Gammill Obituary

Kathleen Gammill died on Tuesday, the 8th of April 2014, in Houston, at the age of 91.
The elder daughter of Lee Clyde and Louise (Tillman) Gammill, Kathleen was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on the 19th of December 1922. She grew up in Little Rock and attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, from 1940-1942, and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville from 1942-1944, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.
After moving to Houston, Kathleen was employed as a buyer for Foley's department store from 1947 to 1953. In 1955 she joined the Employee Relations Department of Houston Natural Gas Corporation, a predecessor to the Enron Corporation, and retired 29 years later, in 1985, as Director of Training and Management Development.
A member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church since 1956, Kathleen was also active in the Daughters of the American Revolution, League of Women Voters, Houston Archeological Society, Archeological Institute of America and Women's Institute of Houston.
Over the years, Kathleen's life long passion for archeology led her to visit many sites in the Middle East, North, Central and South America, Asia, Africa and Europe.
Kathleen is survived by her sister, Marion (Gammill) Harrison of Auburn, Alabama; niece, Kathleen Harrison of Lawrence, Kansas; and her sons, Robin Hart and Sasha Hart; and nephew, Lee Harrison and his wife Jennifer (Rosen) of Ventura, California.
In accordance with Kathleen's wishes, she will be remembered and her urn placed in the church's columbarium during a regularly scheduled Sunday service, which is to commence at half-past eight o'clock in the morning on Sunday, the 15th of June, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1805 W. Alabama Street in Houston, where the Rev. Lisa Hunt, Rector, is to officiate.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial gifts may be directed to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1805 W. Alabama, Houston, TX, 77098; or to the charity of one's choice.

Who wouldn't want a aunt who traveled the world's archeological sites and was always lively and fun and wonderful to talk to. That was my Aunt Kath.

Aunt Kath came to see me about a month after I was born and I am sure that I loved her dearly from then on. She was the best, most interesting and most attentive aunt anyone could ask for. I will love her always.
