Arthur Kleiderer Obituary

Arthur Conrad Kleiderer, Jr. passed away on Father's Day, June 16, 2013 at the age of 90. Art was born in Louisville, Kentucky on March 10, 1923 and moved to Atlanta, Georgia at the age of 8. He attended Inman Elementary and Boy's High in Atlanta. Art and his parents were active members of Haygood Memorial Methodist Church. As a freshman at Georgia Tech, he met the love of his life, Mary Catherine Timmons. As a member of the Greatest Generation, Art forsook his college plans and joined the Army Air Force in 1943. Art and Mary Catherine were married in 1943 while he was in officer training in South Carolina. Arthur served in the 8th Airforce, 44th Bomber Division stationed in England. He was pilot of a B24 bomber with 10 crewman, flying multiple missions from October 1944 to May 1945. Captain Kleiderer received the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters and Distinguished Flying Cross with First Oak Leaf Cluster. After VE day, Art and Mary Catherine proceeded to build their life together in Atlanta, Ga., Art gaining a degree from Georgia State by night and supporting family by day. In 1951, he was recalled to the Air Force and served the United States of America again during the Korean War as a Base Operations Officer. He then refined his career within engineering and sales.
In 1959, the family moved to Houston, Texas, residing in what was to be their permanent life-residence in West University Place. An active member of his church and community and strong supporter of his children's various activities, Art served in various capacities for the Pershing Band, All City Orchestra, Houston Youth Symphony, Lamar High School Band, Lamar High School Basketball Team, Lamar Choralettes, West University Swim Team, West University Little League, and Saint Luke's Methodist Football team. He was an active member of St. Luke's Methodist Church, serving on the Administrative Board, Activities Committee, Evangelism Ministry, First Time Visitor Program, Lay Hospital Visitation, and Alter Flower Delivery Program. He received the St. Luke's Distinguished Life Award in 2004.
Arthur Conrad Kleiderer Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Conrad Kleiderer and Blondena Ballard Kleiderer. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 69 years, Mary Catherine Timmons Kleiderer and his children, Karen Pancheri, and husband Alex, Vivian Davis, and husband, Timothy, Connie Watson, and husband, Richard, Arthur Kleiderer, and wife, Melissa, Robert Kleiderer, and wife, Patricia, and Mary Shindler, and husband W. Allen. He had 21 grandchildren and spouses: Catherine Stallworth (Dave), Christopher Pancheri (Jane), Lauren Vernon (Matthew), Courtney Davis, Catherine Sullivan (Cole), Carolyn Kendall (Heath), Connally Harper (Will), Cailey Walton (Matt), Crossley Mears (Parker), Shannon Myers (Vincent) , Luke, Arthur IV, Christen Perry (Andrew), Nicolas, Thomas Kleiderer (Hailey), Justin, Allison Taylor (Matt), Sarah, Will, Mary Catherine, Dillon. Also, he will be greatly missed by 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchildren.
Arthur was the epitome of love, care, life long learning, giving, dependentability, and responsibility. His life was dedicated to his wife and family. He was a true member of the Greatest Generation.
In celebration of Arthur's life, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Saint Luke's Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer, Houston, TX 77027. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to Saint Luke's Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer, Houston, TX 77027.
