Charles Concklin Obituary

Charles L. "Lewie" Concklin, MD, age 102, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Charles L. Concklin was born in May 1911 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Bert and Frances McAlees Concklin. The family moved to Hibbing, Minnesota and he graduated from Hibbing High School in 1928. In 1937 he graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School, and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas.
Lewie started his pediatric practice in 1937 and worked until his retirement in 1987. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served as a Flight Surgeon stationed in England, France and Germany until 1945.
Lewie was an avid gardener, baker, stamp collector, woodworker, bridge player and bow tie creator. But by his own admission his favorite hobby was his profession. He enjoyed being involved in the "total living adventure". Lewie was a loving father and devoted husband, and will be remembered for being a "Champion for Children".
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Frances Concklin; brother, John Concklin; sisters, Elizabeth Kugler and Sara Trimble; his first wife, Elizabeth Edwards; and son-in-law Michael Keropian. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Doraine Concklin and children, Carol Reed (Doug) of Dripping Springs TX, Saralee Keropian (Michael) of Austin TX, Tommy Concklin (Beth) of Brenham TX, Angelika Banko (Gary) of Phoenix MD, Fred Concklin (Deborah) of Hillsborough CA, and Charles ("Chip") Concklin (Maureen) of San Antonio TX; plus numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2013 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in his name to the Driscoll Children's Hospital Development Foundation.

Dr. Concklin was my pediatrician when I was a boy in Corpus Christi. His gentle manner soothed my pains as he repaired my cuts and tended to my illnesses. May God bless and keep him.

My sympathy to this dear man's family. He was my pediatrician when I grew up in Corpus Christi. The furniture, big windows, etc in the waiting room are still as vivid today as when I was a child. He was the kindest doctor my parents could have picked for my brother and I. What a legacy he passes on. Both he and my mother were at Trinity Towers at the same time.
May God's promised comfort be with all the family.
