Gayle Twyman Obituary

Colonel Gayle F. Twyman (USMC, RET) of Friendswood, Texas, passed away on January 24, 2014 at age 82. Born in the farming community of Wellington, Kansas on August 28, 1931 to Mildred and Wesley H. Twyman, the Colonel served in the Marine Corps for 33 years and was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat V for service in Vietnam. He was commanding officer for First Battalion 23rd Marines in Houston, Texas. Colonel Twyman was treasurer and an active member of the First Marine Division Association as well as a member of the Third Marine Division Association in Houston, Texas. He was a past Commandant of the McLemore Detachment of the Department of Texas Marine Corps League. He earned a bachelor's degree from Ottawa University in Kansas and a master's in business administration at UHCL. He worked as a planning and cost engineer for Boeing and Saudi Aramco where he spent 12 years in Saudi Arabia.
He is preceded in death by his wife Janet Twyman and daughter Cheryl Twyman Maughmer.
A much beloved father and grandfather, he is survived by his brother Wayne Twyman, son Frederick Twyman, grandchildren Jason Twyman, Ashley and husband, Vladimir Colina, and Austin Twyman, and great-grandchildren Elise Twyman and Siena Colina.
The Memorial Service will be held at Friendswood United Methodist Church on Friday, January 31st at 1:00pm.
