Peter Arthur Broome, 83, passed away on May 23, 2013. He was born on April 12, 1930, in Sun Prairie, WI, to Stanley Broome and Josephine (Foster) Broome. Peter is survived by his daughters, Chris Broome and Jill Beardsley; Jill's husband Dick Beardsley; grandsons Christopher and Matthew Gainer; and numerous family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gladys M. (Spangler) Broome; his parents; his stepfather, Lester Knapton; and his brother, Stanley. Pete was very much a patriot: he heard the call of his country and answered by joining the US Army and served during the Korean War. He attended Wisconsin State Teachers College and earned a degree in electrical engineering, after which he worked for McDonnell (later McDonnell-Douglas) and Lockheed. Pete was part of the aerospace industry from the beginning, and he was very proud to be a part of the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Space Shuttle, and the International Space Station programs. He was a member of VFW Post 6378 (Dickinson, TX), American Legion Posts 554 (League City, TX) and 490 (South Houston, TX), AMVETS Post 2 (Houston, TX), and Knights of Columbus Council 5667 (Titusville, FL). Even though Pete lived in Texas and Florida for years, he was still a "cheesehead" through and through. He was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and the University of Wisconsin Badgers and was always up on the latest scores. His greatest pleasures were quiet ones: being at home with his wife, visiting the VFW, American Legion, and AMVETS, or socializing with a few friends. He also loved traveling to Louisana's casinos and racetracks with Gladys, where they'd indulge in a little gambling (and often won). In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in Pete's memory may be made to VFW Post 6378. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2013, at 10:30 AM at Forest Park East Cemetery, Webster, TX.
